Abstract

Il 23 gennaio 1931 viene pubblicato un breve avviso sul New York Times in cui si segnala che presso l’Hotel Astoria si sarebbe tenuto in serata l’annuale ballo Beaux Arts [AAVV 1931a]. Si tratta della dodicesima volta che questo evento si ripete – il primo era dedicato al tema Venezia attraverso i secoli, tenutosi nel 1912 – e si prefigura essere ricco di sorprese. Il ballo sarà in maschera, con una richiesta specifica di indossare costumi «in linea con i tempi moderni» e in cui «la fantasia dovrebbe essere l’indicazione
